Finally, the record I set two years ago (almost to the day) has been broken. By 1:14. The roadie training route I use has now been completed in 1:01:20, an average of 21.1mph. It felt fast from the off although changes in wind direction often make parts feel fast only to slow me down further around the loop. This time, by the halfway mark and the bottom of the 1mile 1 in 6 hill, I had an average of 22.5 and by the top it was still on the better side of 20. From there I had a PB in sight and it was a case of seeing how great a feeling of dying I could cope with. Turns out it’s a fair bit. Long standing aim of a sub-1hour time is still a long way off but doesn’t seem so out of reach anymore. Hopefully with continued weight training (that I’ve not had before) and rowing/cycling all the time, it will be possible by the end of summer. That’s the plan anyway.
Another one bites the dust
